4th gen coil cutting

I took pics and thought id do a small write up for y'all
2012 express quad cab 2wd
Took front springs out
To do this ya need to take off brake caliperU
Take off rotor and remove abs wire
Next take off nut on top of shock and two on bottom and pull shock out
Next take nut off upper ball joint
Take nut off upper sway bar deal
Use hammer and hit on top of spindle until ballpoint comes out and it'll all come down.
Put pressure on lower control and pull on the spring at same time kind of a pain in the ass but you'll get it out.
Set on level service and measure 2 inches and mark it
Cut the coil off (we used a chop saw)
Reinstall making sure u put the spring back in the grooves in rubber boot on top and in groove on lower control arm

Next jack up rear of truck
(we used a trailer spare tire on the jack and put it under the spare tire on the truck and jack it up not touching ground.)
Get a pry bar and you can pry the spring out its kind of sketchy but you can get it out by prying on the bottom and pulling.
We measured off 4 inches on level surface and it still set up high so went ahead cut off another complete coil.
Don't have a measurement but 4 inches+a full coil.
Cut your bump stops short or completely remove them up to you. Put the springs back in and slowly lower it down making sure they go back where they belong because it won't be tight fit like before till shocks settle.

He's going to order some drop shocks for it don't seem to be much travel but it sets 1/2 inch higher than my r/t

Hope this helps someone

Wow, that ended up lower than I thought. It looks good though.

ramthis9501 09-09-2012 11:10 AM

Nice... I might do that to mine...

BMRbrnSNRbrd 09-09-2012 03:42 PM

You can only do that in the front Colton, you would still have to figure something out for the rear.

Think I might take out a leaf spring when I do the axle swap, that should level it out :)

916Timmy 09-09-2012 09:39 PM

Just get some drop shackles

ramthis9501 09-09-2012 09:57 PM

Already got those and have the overload springs removed

916Timmy 09-10-2012 12:15 AM

Flip kit time! Take the shackles off!

swirvin21 09-10-2012 04:59 PM

I would just do a spring under kit. Just weld on a new set of under the axle perches and reuse everything.

Don't worry, as long as you are going to get another Ram soon, we'll let you hang around ;)
