New truck thread
I might have a buyer lined up for the truck and need to nail down my decision soon. I'm still up in the air on a Sport or Outdoorsman. The Outdoorsman is about $3500 less, but that money would go towards some mods that the Sport wouldn't need. Here's the stock Sport and a few Outdoorsman chops. It would definitely get OEM projectors and at least a 285/70/17 tire swap. Wheels and color matched bumpers might have to wait.

You will be able to option out the 3.92 and LSD if you build it right?
Since the outdoorsman doesn't come with the 3.92. |

this is a tough call........glad I don't have to make it. lol
|
Are you going diesel? If so it isn't available on the sport. Also, no 32 gallon tank with the diesel.
|
Sport. If you do the Outdoorsman, you will have to have a lot of things paint or powder matched. That's all well and good as long as it turns out good. With my recent paint experiences, I'm not looking to have anything painted for a while.

Here;s the post I just made on DT and RF.
I stopped by one of my local dealers yesterday to poke around and look at what they had in stock. The sales guy comes out, tell him I'm just looking and he says they just got an EcoDiesel in if I want to drive it. Hell yes I do. LOL. It was a Laramie 2wd with 3.55 gears. I have to say I was impressed. It's a bit sluggish off the line (which is to be expected with a small turbo diesel) but once the turbo spools up it moves pretty good. The sales guy was really trying to push a diesel on me. We went ahead a sat down with the manager and worked the numbers on the diesel and Hemi and there's a huge difference. Not only is the diesel $2850 more than the Hemi, but most of the current rebates are not eligible on the diesel. So I was looking at about $6k more for the diesel option. They also force the 20" wheels with the diesel on the Outdoorsman model which I was not planning on ordering, another $1400. Given the low amount of miles I drive a year (~15k) it will take about 7 years to see a payback. So, Hemi it was! I really wanted to like the Sport model but the Outdoorsman kept drawing me back in. I think it's a better fit for what I want. The interior isn't quite as nice as the Sport but it's still looks great. Only thing I think I'll really miss is the Keyless Go. I love it on my Jeep but I guess I can live with an old fashioned key. LOL. Price wise, it's about the same either way since I'll be adding the OEM projectors (with some possible painting) and new tires right after I take delivery. Stock 17" wheels will stay for now. Below are some renderings of my plans. First is stock, second is new lights, then color matched bumpers, and new wheels. Tires will be a 285/70/17, most likely Toyo AT II. Details on what I ordered: Outdoorsman, Crew Cab, 6'4" bed, 4x4, monotone granite, bucket seats, trailer brake controller, backup cam, 8.4AN, 3.92 gears, and comfort group (heated wheel and seats). Didn't opt for the extras like sunroof, Alpine stereo, RamBox, or air suspension. I ended up getting a decent trade appraisal. Not great but not terrible. I still have about 8 weeks to sell the truck so hopefully someone will buy it before I take delivery so I don't have to worry about trading. Now I just have to wait! http://www.dodge.com/iof/?IMG=EAL_IM..._found_Ram.gif http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0415475f.png http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1f296813.png http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...psc83ffc66.png |
I LOVE that last chop!
|
Should I opt for the black 20" wheels or stay with the stock 17s? It's about $1000 more for the 20s. I don't plan on buying new wheels for awhile if I go with the 17s. Either choice would get new tires very soon. I was reading today and the stock 17s are only 7" wide. A 285 tire will still fit but I'd need to add some wheel spacers to get it out closer to the wheel flares.

I'd save the grand, buy new wheels soon. LOL
|
I think you're right. Hell, I'm kind of digging the 265s after looking at some actual pics. Just needs a spacer to bring them out a bit. The 17" tires the Outdoorsmans come with are actually pretty damn good tires.
|
my brother's '13 Outdoorsman came with 20s - not the black ones, but they look nice! He's rockin' it with a 4" Rancho lift and 35" AT/IIs now.........that butthole.
|
I'm so indecisive. Lol. Only have a week or so to make changes.
|
Paid for wifi on the plane and have been looking at pics. I think I'm going to change to the silver 20s. They fit the trucks proportions better. I really don't want to buy aftermarket wheels to be completely honest and I like the design of the stock wheels. Don't really want black either after thinking about it. The silver wheels and chrome bumpers give a nice contrast.

thats what my brother's truck has on it.

I agree Morgan. I really like the 20's for the outdoorsman. It looks proportionate with the 20's, like you said.
Do it buddy! |
Done! Order changed to include silver 20s...
|
Need to nail down some headlights soon. Here are some from JJs facebook. I chopped the color on some so it doesn't look the best but you get the idea. I definitely want the main part graphite but not 100% sure what I want after that. If I keep the bumpers and the grille badge chrome, I think the chrome shrouds would look good still. The grille badge is an easy fix but not sure about the bumpers. Unless I can get them powdercoated to match, they will stay chrome for awhile (not sure if they make metallic powdercoat). Don't really want to mess with buying new bumpers and having them painted. Right now I'm leaning towards something along the lines of the first two pics.

such a tough call!
|
Hell I might just tell you to surprise me. I know I'll like whatever you come up with. LOL
|
Another sexy shot of Kyle's lights. I'm thinking this paint scheme but granite/satin black instead of silver/mineral gray.... And leave the reflector but tint it...

i liked his, and thats probably what I'd end up doing on yours ;)
|
Here it is with the silver darkened up... I love the thin line around the projector and high beam cover thingy... ;)

I sold some satin / plum crazy ones today. Lets do that to yours! LOL
|
Ummm... No.... FedEx package rejected, return to sender. LOL

SON OF A BITCH!
Truck number two has been ordered. My dealer sent me the order confirmation with the newly assigned VIN and somewhere along the line it got changed to two tone, which I do not want. He doesn't know how it happened and didn't catch it himself. Since it's in D1, he can't change it or cancel it so we ordered another truck. This is a great dealer and apologized several times. Shit happens though. Only lost a week or two so not a big deal. He is going to make some calls and see if someone can pull some strings to get it changed but he said the chances are slim. |
Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!
|
Yep. He's not very happy about having that truck on his lot now. LOL. Being a long bed (well, a normal short bed) and odd color combo, he says he'll have to sit on it a long time. At least I'll get to go take a look at it!
|
shit happens.........hey, it might come in and you might like it?
doubt it. |
I found this truck on Autotrader with the granite/black color combo. It's OK, but I would much rather have the monotone. If I were going to put on a 6" lift and run 35's, I'd roll wit it, but not for a stock height truck...
I did email the dealer with the autotrader link and said if he thought that the black wheels would help sell the mis-ordered truck, I'd be willing to have mine come in with black wheels and swap them out. Then I'd get to see my truck with both options and stick with black if I really wanted to. Sneaky Sneaky. LOL http://images.autotrader.com/scaler/...aadc4d87a5.jpg http://images.autotrader.com/scaler/...7eeec64708.jpg http://images.autotrader.com/scaler/...7c4541289e.jpg http://images.autotrader.com/scaler/...e08c935113.jpg |
dude, that looks beefy
|
Doesn't look bad at all. Just not what I want...
|
oh I gotcha man
|
Well shit man... That blows.. Least it only set you back a week or so.
I wouldn't like having that black on the bottom... Even though that black with the Granite and black wheels does look pretty cool. I'd never rock it. Glad you were able to get it worked out though. |
Just heard from the dealer. They tried like hell to have my order changed but it's too far along. So, we have another one coming with the correct paint...
This actually works out better for me since I wasn't quite ready for it this soon... Gives me more time to sell my mods for down payment and JJ lights... |
Playing around a little more in Photoshop on my future Outdoorsman. Darkened the paint a little so it actually looks like granite, added the 20" wheels, tinted windows, debadged, and a black Ram head in the grille. Here's the renderings with OEM black projectors and dechromed projectors with painted and color matched bumper options. Then black wheels...
As far as the lights go, I don't think I'm going to have any chrome. Probably going with granite/black combo with tinted reflector and turn signal. The chrome looks good with the chrome bumpers but if/when I color match the bumpers, I'm not going to like the chrome in the lights. http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...psecef4c56.jpg http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...ps49684d2b.jpg http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...ps3cb97251.jpg http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...psaf6f391a.jpg http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...ps443ee65c.jpg |
you should just buy my truck morgan. its pretty close to that. 23K miles. ;)
|
Lol. But it has a stumpy bed. Lol
|
yeah? and a trick hood. Get that shit on that newfangled '14 for the price. LOL
|
Sounds like someone is looking for a reason to buy a new truck.... ;)
