Economy tune
I know there's some guys on here running programmers and I need some advice. I've been running the performance tune on my truck ever since I got the programmer and love the power. But ever since I got the 3.92's put in, I've noticed a drop in gas mileage.
No I haven't calculated it but it is definately a noticeable drop. Driving to Norman and back for work has been killing me, to much damn money to be burning premium. So my question is, have any of you ran the economy tune vs the performace tune and notice any difference in fuel mileage? I don't want to lose the power but if it'll save me some money, I'll do it until I take it back to the track. |

I've heard that alot from people on forums, but I wanted info from people I know and trust on this stuff. Wonder what the point of an economy tune is if it doesn't help fuel mileage

I saw the same thing with the eco tune. I just run the 87 tune right now.

Not sure, when I want good mileage I just keep my foot out of it.

Econ tune probably give better fuel mileage assuming a factory vehicle

I know we're not comparing apples to apples here but I know the best way to get mileage out of my truck is to run it on the hot tune (175hp) and keep my foot out of it. The general idea behind it is that the engine isn't having to work as hard to move the truck at a given speed.

Keeping my foot out of it is really hard to do haha maybe I need to try changing my driving habits a bit to see if that'll help

As I got older my driving habits changed drastically and my avg mpg went from 10.7 to 13.5. It makes a good difference lol

I know the eco tune sucks unless you only drive on the highway.. I put it on last weekend and drove to lubbock anbd back...23 mpg going 65-70 with the tailgate down and fence stuff in the back. Around town it was a pig. I like the 91 tune, seems about the same mileage wise, but there is hardly any tweaks until after 2500 rpm in any of them

It appears you may have over-size tires on your truck. If you installed a lower ratio gear set, I would bet you have no idea about what the actual ratio is. In any case, over-size tires and lower gears are not a good combination for fuel economy. I don't think a tuner will help.

I have achieved anywhere from an average of 13.0 mpg on a 26 gallon tank to 20.0 average. Depends on idle time, for example in the cold i let my truck run for a bit first, kills mpgs, the variation in city and hwy travel, tire psi, etc etc. In the fall seems to be the best mpg's for me..
Keep your foot out of it :p In the 4 years I've had my truck since it was brand new.. the best remedy i can find is keep her under 2k rpm on accleration and i set the cruise at 68 mph.. with my 3.21's.. im about 1450 rpm all day long on the highway.. BUT we also have very different trucks.. lol |
The only way to get the best fuel mileage is to keep the engine tuned up, the oil changed, tire pressure on the high side of maximum and a light foot.
