Maybe they just slapped a new rear axle under it without spending the time/money to shorten it?

Oops. I guess I was thinking of another truck because you can clearly see the piping for twin turbos under that hood. So maybe it was set up for racing after all. My bad guys.

That's what I thought but I didn't see the truck in person! But otherwise I bet you're right Dave, may have put a good positrac rearend in it or something without narrowing it.
