And if it is set up like the ones in my truck now, when one of the HID's shuts off, which has only happened one time due to a bad ground, the halogens automatically come on.

And like Morgan said, HIDs are notorious for being temperamental at times, I wouldn't suggest running a setup that consists of a single fixed beam HID, just for safety reasons in case it does go off...
