Sub tear down
Yup you read it right, think my sub is in need of repair. It cut out again yesterday and a new fuse didn't fix it this time. Had a friend come look at it and he said the amp is going into "safety" mode. Thinking that there's a wire in there somewhere that came loose that just needs to be soldered back. So anyone ever rip apart their sub and/or amp before?
If your amp is clipping why are you wanting to tear the sub apart?
The amp is built into the sub, it's an infinity basslink.
no offense but this is way above your head ... you can't just look into an amp and see what's wrong 9 times out of 10 ... you're having an issue finding a possible blown fuse for your headlight cluster i would say it's safe to say you shouldn't be tearing into an amplifier i have VERY extensive knowledge of car audio and electrical circuits and it's not as easy as "a wire came un-done and has to be re-soldered on" ... VERY rarely is it something so simple
Well I'm going to have Mike there to help me, I don't trust myself alone with this kind of stuff yet
So I found some info on the sub, one case was the mosfet went out. Think that might be one reason? If so is it replaceable or repairable? Me and Mike are going to rip it apart later so I'll let you all know how it goes and post some pics
a mosfet is a transistor on the amp not the sub ... sometimes they look blown up sometimes they don't ... you'll have to take the old one off get some thermal grease to re-apply it to the heat sink and solder it in .... rarely do amps blow up the same so googling what's wrong with my amp will get you many answers ... that's like asking someone who has never seen your truck why the engine blew ...
Well we tried it and couldn't even get it apart. It started cracking in places. So guess I'm just gonna have to go without it. Might see if I can find something better later
no the housing was cracked all the way around the screw holes making me leery about prying it apart. if it were mine i would have continued for the sake of ripping shit apart but it isnt. plus side colton those infinity basslinks are on amazon for 184 shipped brand new. chrissy is having me order and install one in the tahoe after we get back from florida. i am going to tap into the factory bose system and make a custom panel with quick connects so we can remove it easily when we need the cargo space
just fyi .. you can make your own assumptions on them but i installed for 5 years and put tons in bc they were super cheap and had a TON of failures with them ...
I would go with a separate amp and sub. It will sound better and last longer. Then when you have a failure, you only have to replace the blown component, not the entire package. Kind of like the old TV/VCR combos...
Thanks for trying Mike, and I'm definitely getting another sub, not sure when but it is on the list now
I've never been a fan of the output on the "all in one" subs. My dad swore by them back in the day until I had a traditional sub and amp installed my in truck.
yeah the output on the basslink is terrrrrrrrible
well we arent looking for much just a little addition to the already decent bose. maybe a type-e and a 200w amp bolted to the box. i want something that can be pulled out easily because we do use the back of the hoe regularly.
maybe i can hide the amp where the jack and tire kit goes and just have the speaker box visible? who knows... it will be fun doing it, it always is |
And you can help me do something awesome to mine when I get one
bring it on.
Awesome! I knew you wouldn't back down from a challenge lol
that not a challenge lol. we are just throwing a box, sub, and amp in there. do you want to build a box or buy one? one sub or 2? i think one would be plenty for your reg cab and the type of music you listen to but im all about more more more. i want to replace all my type-r stuff with type-x and have a pdx-1.000 on each sub and maybe a custom console with a 12 like jeremy did but that is dreaming way down the line.
Yeah just one will be perfect and we can build the box ourselves. We have plenty of plywood or some mdf that we can use
done. we can build the box and then you can work on getting your sub and amp.
Alright sweet sounds good. It'll probably be awhile before I can get the sub and amp, got to save up. Guess the drop is gonna have to wait even longer now
too bad i cant weld. i would make some brackets to fit the seats out of a crew cab into your truck. so the seatbelt would be in the seats. then put a set of components in the rear pillars. i had the seats for my 99 rc but totaled it before i got that far. that really sucked, it wasnt even 2 weeks after i had the roll pan molded and tailgate shaved. i got to watch the wrecker pull it from around the tree and his cable cut right through the roll pan. that was a bad week, bruised face, bruised ego, lost truck.

Fairly cheap and reliable. My system take a beating on a regular basis and I have never had a problem with any of their stuff I have installed. Im by no means an audiophile so I dont need to move up in brand name. I think they are good components for every day use
Yeah I like Alpine to, probably gonna go with them. I just need money lol
