Nice mod, I've been on the fence about doing this as well.

Did it free up any horsepower?

ramthis9501 08-22-2013 09:19 PM

Don't think an efan alone unlocks horsepower, it's the removal of the clutch fan that gives it the extra boost. This fan turns twice as much air as the clutch fan and stock efan combined

Okiespaniels 08-22-2013 09:25 PM

You didn't remove the clutch fan Colton?

ramthis9501 08-22-2013 09:31 PM

Yes I removed the clutch fan about a month ago.

Oh...did you notice any gain from the removal? I'm told it adds power and can help improve mileage.

ramthis9501 08-22-2013 11:26 PM

Yeah it definitely helped

ramthis9501 09-09-2013 07:52 PM

I'm freakin stoked! Just ordered a Mopar Performance PCM. These things are like gold because they're pretty rare nowadays. I lucked out today and found one on another forum right after it was posted and swiped it up! Should be on its way tomorrow or Wednesday at the latest! This is going to really give my truck the wakeup it needs

myoung84 09-09-2013 08:09 PM

Sweet! How much power does the new pcm give you?

Still trying to find that one out because there's a few different claims. But I'm pretty sure it's over 20 hp and 25 lbs of torque gained. The main thing that I got it for was that it's going to make all my performance mods work in unison and hopefully help me pick up a few tenths in the 1/4

ramthis9501 09-10-2013 11:23 AM

Well just how my luck seems to always go, the guy backed out of the deal.. So I got my money refunded and I'm pretty bummed about it. Guess I'll just have to keep searching. No pcm for now :(

myoung84 09-10-2013 11:41 AM

That's some BS.

ramthis9501 09-11-2013 07:12 PM

Got a universal coolant catch can and mounted it on a custom bracket bolted onto the radiator. No more big ass annoying shroud:peace:

Looks a lot cleaner!

ramthis9501 09-11-2013 08:04 PM

Thanks! Alot more room too

916Timmy 09-11-2013 08:58 PM

That is a big e-fan!

ramthis9501 09-11-2013 10:14 PM

That's why there's no need for a clutch fan!

ramthis9501 09-14-2013 01:49 PM

Well I finally lucked out! I was scouring the net for a Mopar Performance PCM the other night and came across one on eBay. The part# matched and everything so I had to have it! It throws a code for "radiator fan control short" but I'm not worried about it because I'm running my fan off a switch anyways.

Got it in the mail this morning, immediately went out to the garage and installed it; which only took about 5 minutes. Took a drive... I couldn't believe the difference. It used to fall on its face shifting from 2nd to 3rd but now it's strong and doesn't miss a beat! It screams!

I did some research and depending on mods, I can expect anywhere from 20-30 hp and 20-30 lbs of torque added. And I truly believe it! One more checked off the list :D

916Timmy 09-14-2013 07:00 PM

Very nice! Have to get it out to the Valley again!

ramthis9501 09-14-2013 09:00 PM

Waiting til November ;)

Well I decided to take advantage of the nice weather and low DA tonight. Ran it with full street setup. Street tires and tonneau cover were left on.

The PCM was exactly what it needed!

14.565 @ 95.73

Gonna run it again in November and see what slicks and new shocks will do for me

ramthis9501 09-28-2013 06:02 PM

Picked up a stock hood today. Figure it'll be a good backup or an opportunity to go a different route with the appearance if I decide to.

I like your hood, just not the bumper.

ditto.

ramthis9501 09-29-2013 12:32 PM

I'm going to get it painted pretty soon. Found a guy that can get it done and they do exceptional work.

ramthis9501 11-03-2013 01:02 AM

Been awhile since I've updated you all. I went ahead and got some Belltech Street Performance Shocks installed and it helped a ton on ride quality and hooking at the strip!

Also went to Tulsa today for the annual Mopars at the Park race event and got some good runs in.

Best time was 14.063 @ 98.13 :D

Got high hopes of breaking into the 13's soon, but by next season for sure!

And first post has been updated

myoung84 11-03-2013 07:50 AM

Nice! You're so close to 13's and 100 mph!

ramthis9501 11-04-2013 02:29 PM

I also cut a .005 reaction time! I red lighted on another run and it was a -.001! I was so close to a perfect light!

ramthis9501 11-04-2013 04:50 PM

Videos of two of my runs. This was a go-pro in another guys Dakota R/T that I ran against. The first one, he ran 14.12 and I ran a 14.24. Second run, he jumped the light big time but we still ran pretty similar times.

ramthis9501 11-05-2013 03:08 PM

It's a little choppy, but this is my 14.06 run.

DoubleTakeDodge 11-05-2013 03:26 PM

Hell yeah! Looks like you were beginning to pull him at the end of the quarter on the first video

ramthis9501 11-05-2013 03:57 PM

Yeah I was. This truck has a ton of top end power. I started reeling him in after the 1/8th mile

ramthis9501 11-11-2013 01:03 PM

Update :D

Alright so I have narrowed down a ticking noise in the engine that's been going on for awhile to a bad lifter. New lifters have been ordered and also the starting pieces to something a little more sinister :devilfinger:

I have big plans for it down the road, but in the meantime, I wanna make it go even faster the way it stands now. So what's better to use to get that extra boost other than nitrous :D Yup I'm going to start saving my pennies and parts to get a nitrous setup installed in the near future. Not going for anything to crazy, just gonna spray a 75, maybe 100 shot. These trucks can handle it with stock bottom end, stock trans and stock internals. All I'm gonna do is replace the valve springs with some shorter ones for more lift and put some new lifters in. Other than that, all I gotta do is install the nitrous kit and we're looking at potential 12's in the 1/4 mile :jawdrop: I'll keep you all updated on this new project!

Matt 11-11-2013 03:53 PM

yes but can that truck handle a 18 y/o with a nitrous button :lazer:

ramthis9501 11-11-2013 05:02 PM

Yeah because I'm not some dumbass poser that goes around trying to show off to his buddies, I actually have a brain and use it. Only time I'll be hitting the button is either in a legit race or at the track. So no need to worry about that.

ramthis9501 11-13-2013 01:51 AM

So for the peace of mind knowing that the engine will be able to hold up to the extra power, we're going to do a few internal upgrades. New lifters, pushrods, valve springs, head gaskets and intake manifold gaskets are gonna be installed within the next couple weeks. After that, all I gotta do is hook up the nitrous :D

916Timmy 11-13-2013 08:22 PM

Sounds like a party under the hood! :)

ramthis9501 12-14-2013 12:25 AM

Alright alot has happened in the past week…. Redid the entire top end. New heads, lifters, pushrods, valve springs, head gaskets, intake manifold gaskets, header gaskets, and header bolts. Only "stock" part left are the valves. Well I tore it down Monday and just got it all done and put back together earlier this evening. Before tear down, there was a loud knocking noise. I thought it was just a pushrod considering that it was disconnected from the lifter when I tore it down. The shit news now.. That knock is still there, even after a whole new top end. That only leaves one explanation… Rod knock. Yup the piston rod coming off the crank. But after talking to some well knowledgeable guys, we think the crank, pistons, rods and cam are good. So that means it's time for either a rebuild on my motor which would involve new main bearings, rod bearings, cam bearings, piston rings and oil pump or just get a new short block and put my top end on it. This sucks ass. But it is what it is, so hopefully I can get a game plan down soon and get my truck running again before Christmas.

myoung84 12-14-2013 05:58 PM

Well that sucks. I think I'd rebuild the bottom end rather than swapping in a short block....

ramthis9501 12-14-2013 07:27 PM

Gonna be about the same if not more cash to rebuild my current motor rather than just go with a low mileage short block.
