Swapping Interiors

Does anyone know how much of a bitch it is to swap interiors on a 2nd gen? Me and James are swapping interiors on some of my family friends trucks this weekend that got the interior torched. I've heard the dashes suck but wonderin if any of yall knew.

ramthis9501 04-19-2012 12:00 PM

I've heard the dash is the worst part of it all... I might be wrong, but I think Al has done it before but like I said, not sure

Okiespaniels 04-19-2012 01:52 PM

The Dash ..SUUUUUUUUCCKKKKKKKXXXXXXXXXXXXXX!

On the destroyed trucks it will be easy....trying to get a good one out without breaking it is virtually impossible

DoubleTakeDodge 04-19-2012 02:27 PM

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of... Are they hard to get in? And I'll try to remember to take pics to show y'all

Lt.Dan 04-19-2012 04:03 PM

Yeah. Thank god the torched one is already completely stripped.

DoubleTakeDodge 04-19-2012 04:13 PM

It's already stripped?? Good deal! This money should be easy enough then ;)

Lt.Dan 04-19-2012 04:15 PM

Yes sir. Dad told me that while ago so it shouldn't be too bad. Probably still take longer than a day

okcoalroler99 04-19-2012 04:37 PM

The dash sucks I've took 4 apart if I remember right there is 190 something screws and sometimes ghetto come apart in more pices tan was ment to be....REPLACE THE HEATER CORE WILE YOUR IN THERE THEY ARE PRONE FOR FAILURE just my .02

Lt.Dan 04-22-2012 08:58 PM

Well we got the good interior out in one piece. The top dash piece was so brittle that it broke though but we got the entire thing out in one piece. Wasn't actually that bad

DoubleTakeDodge 04-23-2012 12:34 AM

pretty successful day :)

BMRbrnSNRbrd 04-23-2012 06:44 AM

So it's all done and swapped?

Lt.Dan 04-23-2012 08:57 AM

They aren't swapped yet. We just got the one completely stripped. Im gonna go pick up the other truck this week so we can do it Friday and Saturday

swirvin21 04-23-2012 03:23 PM

are they both either 94-97 or post '98? Trying to cross swap will not be easy by any means. Be sure to check the headlamp switch as they changed a few times as well.

DoubleTakeDodge 04-23-2012 04:15 PM

The worst part is we don't know. We were never told. We're just doing everything we can and anything else is left to him.

Lt.Dan 04-23-2012 04:41 PM

One is a 98 12 valve and the other is pre 98 I believe. It has the pull headlamp switch instead of the knob.

DoubleTakeDodge 04-23-2012 05:11 PM

The sport said 98 in the door frame on that sticker

Lt.Dan 04-23-2012 05:45 PM

Oh that's right

DoubleTakeDodge 04-23-2012 05:48 PM

Yeah. so hopefuly everything will match up

swirvin21 04-23-2012 09:46 PM

There are a number of changes during the 98-99 years, so just double check. Even the seat belts changed slightly and I had to make a custom harness change for mine when I swapped in some newer 99 seats.

If I'm not mistaken, the pull knob switch is more likely to overheat than the turn style. Don't remember if the plug is the same, if they won't switch, just be sure to add a small hole in the vent line above the switch to allow the pull knob style to cool better....or upgrade to a Sport harness.

FYI, the 98 12 valve is a rare truck if it is a quad cab unit. I know a number of guys who would drool over one.....

Lt.Dan 04-24-2012 10:23 AM

It is a quad cab unit. lol. im not sure how nice it is though. i know the interior sucks though
