Sweet!

Wow, did he drive up from Lawton?

That's what I does
wow .. lol nice though
Lol
Yeah, it worked out well because I dropped my son off at the Diamond Ballroom in OKC. I got a chance to meet the Dad too...really good folks.
That amp sounded really good with that sub in stereo(4ohm + 4 ohm) in my RC, but with it being a GM5300t, I'm not sure it will run in a 2 ohm load. I will do some more research and see what I find. From what I can tell, if you run it bridged(mono), you can't run a DVC(4ohm + 4ohm) with this amp. It sounded good in my RC, so I never tried it. Quote:

From what I can tell, it will work in bridged/mono....but I also don't want you to risk blowing the amp. Personally, I'd run it in stereo until you can find a solid mono amp that will push that sub. Hell, it may be good enough for you in stereo, but you young guys like bumping that stuff. lol
Awesome thanks Jeff, I'll do some research on it for sure
so is the sub a dual voice coil 4 ohm speaker?
Yes, DVC 4ohm + 4 ohm.
According to the manual, this amp is only stable in 4 ohm bridged, so you would have to run a dvc (8 ohm +8ohm). I would not risk ruining the amp, save up for a mono amp.
no you can run the amp you just have to run it at stereo 2 ohm or bridged 8 ohm... both give it the same amount of power which is roughly half of the 380 watts the amp is
so seeing how the sub is only going to get 190 watts just make sure you don't try to turn it up and up bc you want it louder bc that will make the amp try to work harder than it can and do what's called "clipping" which means the amp is putting out a square wave bc it's stressed to the max and sending the sub distortion which can blow one or both .... the gain needs to be set to your deck but since you don't have an o-scope and don't know how to set it with a meter ... general terms... turn amp all the way down turn your headunit as high as you listen to it and then turn the amp gain up until it starts to distort and then turn it back down a tad .. general rule of thumb on a decent radio you do not need to go past half and minimal bass boost |
Sweet thanks that shouldn't be a problem. I don't want it stupid loud, just something that will make it sound good
Did you get it hooked up yet?
No I still need to get a box. Is there somewhere I can get one made for a decent price? I called one place here in Norman and they quoted $200. Thought that was a little much...

So I'm thinking about just building myself along with the help of our neighbor who actually does wood work as a side job. Found this 3/4" thick piece of plywood in the shop think it'll work?
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/a...-32-22_393.jpg |
That would work, but I would recommend buying a sheet of 3/4" mdf. It's the best thing to use for building boxes.
Well the deal fell through with the neighbor. He wont be able to do it til next week and I want it done before the weekend is up. So I think me and my dad are going to do it instead here pretty soon. I'll post pics when its all done. I've been working on it for a good part of the day :)

and 8 ohm bridged vs 2 ohm stereo is the same power so it won't matter either way colton |
I wired it the way Mike posted and it's working great! MDF might be better but honestly I don't mind either way. I just think it's better to use the plywood since we already got it, plus it's free lol
And I got a pretty good idea on calculating area... just LengthxWidthxDepth for a box right? |
Length x width x height in inches / 1728 = cubic feet.
I knew that lol so the box is done! Dimensions are 18" x 16" x 7" = 1.17 cubic feet.
Here's some pics :D The box http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/a...-49-24_862.jpg http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/a...-49-30_985.jpg http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/a...-49-40_142.jpg The amp http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/a...4-54-40_69.jpg http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/a...-39-36_328.jpg Coated the box with a rubber coating type paint, so it's got to sit awhile... probably overnight. So I'm getting it all hooked up first thing tomorrow! |
nice
I'm sure there will be nay sayers but thats not bad Colton.
he isnt going for comp, hell he is replacing a infinity basslink. i thin that will suffice. nice work bud
Thanks guys
Looks good to me!
I forgot it was a basslink before...you are going to shit a pink twinkie when you hear that bud.
I actually hooked it up earlier just cause I wanted to hear it and even out of the box it hits pretty good!
how do you turn a twinky pink?
Shit it.

Its all hooked up and working great! :D
