Exhaust

Well just looked under the truck and the rusty glasspack has a leak. Thinking of swapping it out now with something to make it louder. So what should I go with?

OklaHemi 01-11-2012 03:00 PM

I would just throw a flowmaster on there and call it a day should be less than 100

BMRbrnSNRbrd 01-11-2012 03:03 PM

Bingo.

myoung84 01-11-2012 04:00 PM

14" Magnaflow gets my vote!

ramthis9501 01-11-2012 04:11 PM

Is there anything I could get for like $40-$50?

ramthis9501 01-11-2012 04:19 PM

Found this...

ramthis9501 01-11-2012 06:40 PM

Has anyone heard of an incinerator? I just called university muffler in Norman and they quoted $75 parts and labor putting one of those in. Pretty good deal I thought...

BMRbrnSNRbrd 01-11-2012 08:00 PM

Just go for it..how bad could it sound?

OklaHemi 01-11-2012 09:52 PM

try it out

Matt 01-12-2012 02:22 AM

just fyi those are fairly quiet i've had one on a car before

ramthis9501 01-12-2012 12:35 PM

I dont want that, i want it to be around where it is now if not a little louder. Should i just go with another glasspack then?

ramthis9501 01-12-2012 12:46 PM

Oh and if i take it to an exhaust shop, which im probably gonna do, im going to have the cat cut off while they're at it. It'll be less restrictive and a little louder.

BMRbrnSNRbrd 01-12-2012 03:21 PM

Just remember, quality over quantity.

myoung84 01-12-2012 03:37 PM

I'd just go to an exhaust shop and see what they have. They might even have a nice used takeoff mffler you could pick up cheap.

Didn't think of that, I'm going up there Monday so I'll see what they got.

Matt 01-12-2012 08:17 PM

mellatone is a more affordable flowmaster sounding muffler it's like a knockoff kind of

ramthis9501 01-12-2012 08:56 PM

Well I got it figured out now. We have a mig welder, so me and my dad are going to do it instead. I'm getting a glass pack instead of a muffler. Also gonna cut the cat off and straight pipe it to the glass pack. Going to go pick it all up tomorrow and we're doing it Monday.

just what do you think a glass pack is?

ramthis9501 01-12-2012 09:16 PM

What I mean is a glass pack instead of a flow master

Okiespaniels 01-12-2012 10:41 PM

Why do you want to make it louder. Sound level does nothing for performance on a stock vehicle.

Remove the cat? so you can have CEL's?

You have a 2001....It has a single 31/2 or 4" intake pipe to your cat and 2.5 out. It is NOT restricting the flow on your motor. These convertors do not have the plugging issues that plagued earlier rams.

ramthis9501 01-12-2012 10:56 PM

The sound is a personal preference. And a clogged cat or not, straight pipe is always going to be less restrictive. And the CEL wont bother me considering it already comes on because of the lower temp thermostat.

Yes...straight pipe is less restrictive at higher rpms...not where your motor is. I expect you'll lose power. I mean....if a loud exhaust with big pipes would help my ram run better at the speeds and rpm I drive it at, wouldn't you think I would install one? Has anyone else jumped on the bandwagon?

The CEL comment is just silly

ramthis9501 01-12-2012 11:27 PM

The cel isn't going to effect how it runs, its just a light on the instrument cluster... Which I don't mind looking at. It might not help the power but like I said, I want it a little louder because of personal preference which is exactly what cutting the cat will do.

LowRam 01-13-2012 10:05 AM

i have a 93 camaro once my cat clogged on it i just cut it off took a bar and knocked everything out of it to where it was hollow than welded it back on. im guessing that would be the same as adding just a straight pipe if so it really didnt make much of a difference. but my buddy had a 01 ram in high school his cat got cut off over night and he had to drive with out one lol that was loud!

OklaHemi 01-13-2012 11:34 AM

dont remove your cats its dumb trust me. and it makes your truck stink to high shit which in turn turns the ladies off. and isnt that why we all do this anyway, bitches. the cel is annoying to i hate when people point it out.

BMRbrnSNRbrd 01-13-2012 01:17 PM

You are most likely going to see a significant power loss if you cut the cat off. On my '04 I thought a full 3" exhaust with no cats would be perfect...my 0-60 was up to almost 10 seconds...I thought the motor was trashed. Added a hi-flow cat and all was well and went back to normal. Your truck needs back pressure to properly produce power unless you are running some crazy 500hp motor.

ramthis9501 01-13-2012 02:25 PM

Damn... That is a significant loss, I've always understood that cutting a cat was better. Guess not though huh?

916Timmy 01-13-2012 02:59 PM

You lose low end power and torque. The only motors that run better without cats or mufflers are turbos.

^^^ was his nameO

LowRam 01-13-2012 08:14 PM

Ill have to look under my truck to tell you what my muffler is but mine is dumped out right before the rear axle and its loud so maybe you can get something like ive got and if you wanted you could run it out the side like infront of your rear tire id you wanted it see able

ramthis9501 01-13-2012 09:05 PM

I'm just going to do a new glass pack. We're going to weld it on Monday

I guess I could've have explained this better, but I'm glad everyone else was able to convince you not to do this.
Actually I did explain it...elsewhere. Happy reading. :birgits_tiredcoffee

OklaHemi 01-14-2012 12:13 AM

My cats are off and my0-60 is around 7 but I have a cherry bomb resonator before my at3030 I had to add it for my children's sake

ramthis9501 01-16-2012 05:45 PM

Got it done!

BMRbrnSNRbrd 01-16-2012 06:00 PM

It's because you are trying to do it with a mobile version of Youtube.

ramthis9501 01-16-2012 06:07 PM

Oh ok, is there anyway you could fix it from the computer? I don't have access to a computer... I'd appreciate it

916Timmy 01-16-2012 07:50 PM

916Timmy 01-16-2012 07:51 PM

I thought it would be a lot louder than that! Might just be the cell phone! Congrats on a finished project!

ramthis9501 01-16-2012 08:09 PM

Thanks Timmy!

Yeah I thought it would be to but that cat quiets it up alot!
