Moes Ported TB or BBK headers?

I've almost got the wife convinced I should buy something else for the truck and the Moes 85mm ported throttle body is getting rave reviews. However, the BBK shorty headers are supposed to be ready soon...but they keep getting pushed back. Should I give in to my need for instant gratification or wait for the headers? With the holidays and some planned remodeling at home coming up I can't do both.

myoung84 10-04-2012 05:49 PM

Will the BBK's be coated?

0212353 10-04-2012 06:18 PM

I'd go headers over a TB anyday

BMRbrnSNRbrd 10-04-2012 06:20 PM

No coating. My other headers weren't coated and were fine.

hemipowered22z 10-04-2012 06:58 PM

My BBK chrome shorties are enroute. step up buddy. lol.

fastnnuffrt 10-04-2012 07:31 PM

I'm waiting for reasonable long tubes

BMRbrnSNRbrd 10-04-2012 08:36 PM

I don't care about strip performance so LTs aren't necessary.

Okiespaniels 10-04-2012 09:03 PM

What gives the most performance and/or stunning visual effect?

I don't believe you can see the t/b from under your massive air filter system.

BMRbrnSNRbrd 10-04-2012 10:10 PM

Thats true but lately I've only focused on exterior mods and want to do either performance or audio...and audio is a slippery slope for me. My main concern is bang for buck on these two.

myoung84 10-04-2012 10:21 PM

Headers will be the best bang for your buck. Then you can do the TB when your wife's not looking ;)

Okiespaniels 10-04-2012 11:18 PM

The headers will add more "visual performance" and probably a new "audio" experience as well as power.

Come to think of it, I don't listen to my stereo much anymore. I prefer hearing my vehicle.

Isn't that silly?

BMRbrnSNRbrd 10-05-2012 11:06 AM

Silly to some people is normal.

BMRbrnSNRbrd 10-06-2012 10:34 AM

Alright guys, thanks to another member's sales pitch last night, the wife gave the go light! Now, I'm pretty set on the headers, despite having to wait, but wanted to hear any other thoughts on the tb before I put my order in. I know I'll have the additional cost of better gaskets (Mopar) and locking header bolts, but, anything else I should think about?

(S.M.R) 101 10-06-2012 10:54 AM

:D

You know my thoughts.... eco friendly dude.. just sayin

myoung84 10-06-2012 11:06 AM

Honestly, I wouldn't worry about the locking header bolts. You won't be able to put one on every bolt anyways, there's not much room to work in there.

Okiespaniels 10-07-2012 08:32 AM

Well....probably shouldn't mention this, but there's a fastman 85mm tb nib on RF for 175 bucks this morning.

BMRbrnSNRbrd 10-07-2012 10:30 AM

Yeah, I saw that but his design has caused some trouble codes to pop for some fourth gen guys.

Okiespaniels 10-07-2012 10:33 AM

Interesting...I'm not a fan of his 2nd gen stuff...halving throttle shafts may be ok for racing apps. Not for street use.
I'm pretty sure it'll sell.

ramthis9501 10-07-2012 01:09 PM

Just saw that Moe's came out with an 87mm throttle body...

Apparently the issue for the 4th gen Fastman design is that the throttle body is bored the same diameter the entire way, leaving a gap around the butterfly at idle. This causes a CEL to pop up and I don't want that. Moe's has theirs designed so that it tapers down to stock diameter at the valve so there are no gaps. This uses the Bernoulli effect that made that tapered intake so popular (can't think of its name right now.)

Where? I don't see it on his site.

BMRbrnSNRbrd 10-07-2012 01:24 PM

Nevermind, found it on RF

Might be something to consider

BMRbrnSNRbrd 10-07-2012 01:57 PM

I'm really torn now...new products with limited production peak my interest. I already pm'd Matt to ask what bolt-ons he considers necessary to run this efficiently.

BMRbrnSNRbrd 10-07-2012 02:00 PM

Matt already got back with me. Go figure, right? The guy's customer service is impeccable.

Anyway, the 87mm setup is ideally for heavily modified guys. He said he wants to get it on a truck with a minimum of a swapped cam. He's going to get with BBK about the headers tomorrow. IF they get delayed again I'm ordering his 85mm setup.

ramthis9501 10-07-2012 02:02 PM

Awesome man good luck with whatever you get. Either way, you'll get some more performance

BMRbrnSNRbrd 10-08-2012 02:57 PM

Answer from Matt about the header timeline:

Quote:

OK, these have already been sent in for chrome plating and ceramic coating. This process will take about a week, then a week to box everythig up and have them ready to ship. End result, these are expected to ship the week of the 22nd or the 29th. They said they wont know an exact date until they get them back from having them coated.
I want them so bad but my need for instant gratification is really killing me. I've even thought about it and tried to come up with something in the same price range that would be just as good and I can't.

ramthis9501 10-08-2012 03:11 PM

Patience pays off from time to time

0212353 10-08-2012 03:12 PM

hold off on it man. get what you want..........

(S.M.R) 101 10-08-2012 04:25 PM

Hold off for them buddy

myoung84 10-08-2012 04:56 PM

I'd hold off, you'll be happier in the long run.

And Matt's customer service is some of the best I have ever seen. I've PM'd him several times and always have a reply within minutes.

BMRbrnSNRbrd 10-08-2012 06:43 PM

I've decided to stick with my original decision and get the headers. Also, since Matt throws in the OEM gaskets and I have been advised that locking header bolts are not worth it, I'm going to get the ceramic coated set.

0212353 10-08-2012 06:57 PM

sounds like a great idea.

BMRbrnSNRbrd 10-08-2012 07:13 PM

Now I have to rally an extra set of hands for a half-days work installing these bastards...you actually have to break one of the motor mounts loose, according to the instructions I found. YOWZA!

0212353 10-08-2012 07:16 PM

sucks that I live so far away, we'd do 2 of them and make a full damn day out of it. LOL

ramthis9501 10-08-2012 07:45 PM

If I'm freed up, I wouldn't mind helping

(S.M.R) 101 10-08-2012 07:58 PM

That's going to be a fun install D. man

BMRbrnSNRbrd 10-08-2012 08:20 PM

Thanks Colton.

Kyle, pick up JJ on the way down.

0212353 10-08-2012 08:24 PM

lol, no......my truck would get headers too. :D
