New System

Alright guys I think I got it this time..

This is what i'm doing.. Let me know your thoughts.

the set up will be 1 12" sub in a fox box

this is the sub I'm thinking

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...12W6v2-D4.html

and the box

http://www.foxacoustics.com/ProductD...=DQC%2D112%2DS

This was the amp I was thinking of

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...o-XD600-1.html

I already orderd the box because Fox often just runs out of boxes and then they don't have anymore for awhile lol..

System guru's what do you think.

myoung84 12-02-2011 09:18 AM

I think it's going to sound awesome!

(S.M.R) 101 12-02-2011 12:43 PM

Yeah dude this thing is going to pound! I can't wait.. My brother has 2 JL 12w7 and them things pound so hard man.. I think 1 will be over doing it for me but a lot of people say that this sub is awesome for hard rock / metal.. and will beat the block down with rap or bass music..

0212353 12-02-2011 06:47 PM

shit, he has 12" sealed in stock? No offense to Morgan (I have his fiberglass one in mine now) - but a sealed 12 fox makes me stiff....

ramthis9501 12-02-2011 07:38 PM

Can't wait to see it all set up!

Matt 12-03-2011 03:10 AM

will it even fit? the magnets on those things are kinda big ....

Matt 12-03-2011 03:16 AM

sub is too deep ... on top of that the basket and the magnet are both fairly wide compared to standard subs

(S.M.R) 101 12-03-2011 12:54 PM

The dudes at fox acoustics recommended that JL for that box. I talked with them on the phone for a little bit and asked what was the best sub to put in there and they said that one.

I wouldn't mind stepping up to a 12" sealed box myself... It's really hard to beat a fox box.

i don't know why you are yelling at me lol i'm just giving you the specs i know it's a bigger basket sub so thats why i was curious if they say it'll fit they should know .. guess their numbers are in-correct

BMRbrnSNRbrd 12-04-2011 09:39 AM

I really need to get into this again...

Matt 12-04-2011 12:59 PM

Well let me know dave if you need any help ...

BMRbrnSNRbrd 12-04-2011 01:26 PM

Sure, a blank check would help a lot!

I was not yelling dude lol. I was just saying that the guys told me that that sub was a good sub to mount in there.

I'll double check with them again before I buy the sub.

(S.M.R) 101 12-04-2011 04:35 PM

This was what they told me and can also be found on the site

OUR MOUNTING DEPTH AND MAGNET SIZE IS LISTED SLIGHTLY SMALLER THAN IT ACTUALLY IS TO BE ON THE SAFE SIDE.
SUBS WITH LARGE BULKY CAST FRAMES MAY NOT FIT.

Here are the recommended subs for the 12" subs
Recommended subs for this box.
ALPINE TYPE R, SWR 1223 or SWR 1243
JL Audio 12w6 v2
Punch P3
Kicker CVX 12

I'm calling them again tomorrow to check again.

(S.M.R) 101 12-04-2011 04:51 PM

Same sub i'm buying in this picture with the same box..
http://i1177.photobucket.com/albums/...QC-112-S-4.jpg

Think i'm good to go!! Hells yeah :D

ramthis9501 12-04-2011 05:17 PM

Sweet! Get it ordered! Lol

(S.M.R) 101 12-04-2011 05:19 PM

just finished placing my orders for the sub and amp :D

(S.M.R) 101 12-04-2011 10:49 PM

$650 bucks later........ this shit better sound good lol

Christmas gift to myself haha

ramthis9501 12-04-2011 11:10 PM

Sweetness!

OklaHemi 12-05-2011 11:47 AM

hell yeah. stereo upgrades are my second favorite thing to do right after wheels

(S.M.R) 101 12-05-2011 03:13 PM

Welp I stand corrected.. I just got an email from a guy at Fox and he told me that the JL would not fit in the box I ordered.

He mentioned something about spacers need for that sub to fit? Thank god they had not sent the sub yet. I was able to cancel the order.

So now my search continues for a sub...... That sucks dudes I really wanted that JL W6

(S.M.R) 101 12-05-2011 05:03 PM

Anyone ever heard one of these or ever had one?? I still plan on running the JL amp

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...SWR-1243D.html

(S.M.R) 101 12-06-2011 12:16 AM

and I think I know why my amp was heating up.. that amp is 600 watt RMS and the alpines I have now are only rated for 250 watt RMS..

That would cause the amp to heat up huh?

Matt 12-06-2011 12:19 AM

yes solid sub but i def prefer the jl .. run the spacers you'll be fine

Matt 12-06-2011 12:25 AM

no that doesn't have anything to do with it

Matt 12-06-2011 12:28 AM

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...te-T1D412.html you might ask them about these .. i have one these they are very nice lol they fit the depth you're looking for/ they come with a VERY slick looking grille that will allow the sub to push into the underside of the backseat and not put any pressure on the actual sub/ the only thing i worry about is the basket is kind of over-sized but they might fit .... i can compare one of these to a cvx tomorrow which they say will fit

(S.M.R) 101 12-06-2011 12:31 AM

What are the spacers?

Matt 12-06-2011 12:37 AM

spacers i'm sure are just a spacer that is going to go between the sub and the box to raise it up 1/2" or 3/4" of an inch or whatever that is needed... only problem is that it also moves it closer to the seat and will probably rub on the bottom of the seat .. with the jl's they have foam surrounds so you'll see rub marks start and could possibly rub a hole in the surround bc of the friction .. but i'm just spitballing what ifs bc i don't have the sub/box to see if it'll hit and how bad ... but it's a likely option or they would've just make the box deeper to begin with

That's a pretty good sub huh? I have never done anything with rockford only kicker, alpine, memphis audio, and JL

Looks like a pretty stout sub

(S.M.R) 101 12-06-2011 12:40 AM

Yeah I don't want to get anything that in the long run will end up messing up the sub.. this is that last ditch effort on the system.. What I buy now will stay for awhile

Matt 12-06-2011 12:48 AM

ya its a very beefy sub and will take much more power than that 600 if you wanted to upgrade ... it would easily take 1k

BMRbrnSNRbrd 12-06-2011 08:49 AM

And Matt would know as he's got an audio addiction problem...I've seen the picture of his "stash."

(S.M.R) 101 12-06-2011 11:14 AM

Haha no doubt dude

(S.M.R) 101 12-06-2011 11:22 AM

I think i'm going to go with the type R.. I just don't want to have to screw around what that rockford if the basket is to bulky to fit in the box..

Should I go with the 2ohm or 4ohm sub? what the hells the difference?

(S.M.R) 101 12-06-2011 11:46 AM

Ok i'm switching the amp.. to this

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...ne-PDX-M6.html

myoung84 12-06-2011 12:17 PM

The Type R's are dual voice coil, so if you are running a single sub off a mono block amp, you'll need a 4 ohm DVC sub. I am running a 10" Alpine Type R and am very pleased with it. That amp a will be a nice match. This is what you need:

just realize you are stepping way down from the RF or the JL ... i can understand just wanting to do it easy but there is a huge upgrade to the other subs, just know that before buying i've ran 2 of the type r alpine 10's in my truck so i know specifically about these subs

ohm is a measure of impedance there isn't one better than the other its just a way to maximize a wider range of amplifiers so for your amp morgan is right you'll want a dual 4 ohm sub (then when you get it wire the sub in parallel which means pos to pos and neg to neg on both coils the alpine has a jumper for this you'll see)

(S.M.R) 101 12-06-2011 04:03 PM

Thanks Morgan and Matt..

Matt I know it's a step fown from the JL or the rockford but i'm pretty sure that these will do what i'm looking for a lot of good reviews about running these while playing rock/metal.. and I don't want to have to deal with fitment issues.. I'm not looking for show comp audio just a better sound then what I have now.

Thank you again for your help and input dude I appreciate it
