Speedo Calibration

Ok guys, I really need to have my speedo calibrated. When i'm runnin at 75mph it only reads 65mph. Anybody know where I can go to have it calibrated or have a tuner that can do calibration that i may be able to use during kicker bash? Appriciate any help!

This might help not sure though because of your big tires. Tuner might be a better bet but you can try it if you want.

It'll take some time and patience since you have to pull the needle and put it back until it lines up.

I did it, so if you got a question, ask away

The needle has to be pulled? Do I just pull the needle and adjust it based on the gauge troubleshooting stage and restart the test?

DoubleTakeDodge 02-16-2012 05:34 PM

Well dang, Idk if i'm not doing it right or if it won't work with my truck but i can't get it to work :/

ramthis9501 02-16-2012 05:48 PM

Yeah you just pull the needle off and put it back in a different spot, then restart the test. Once it goes to those 3 preset positions then your good. If its still off while going down the road then you probably need to use a tuner. I actually am about to get one so when we go to Kicker Bash, I'll let you borrow it and fix it.

Sweet man, I can deal with it for now! I appreciate it!

ramthis9501 02-16-2012 06:28 PM

No problem, just wish I would've thought of that earlier lol

Mine needs to be calibrated too. It's accurate up to about 15 mph. Lol

Okiespaniels 02-18-2012 10:30 PM

The speedo is setup by the VSS sensor on a a '99 and is adjustable through the BCM (body control module) which can be done by anyone like a dealer or a tuner like Superchips. SCT's cannot do this.
I'm not sure how removing the needle and moving it around would work but it sounds like you would damage the interior workings. It would certainly be off at other speeds because the mph is measured in either current or voltage.

I could be wrong, but generally tuners are VIN locked to the truck they're used on, so you can't use them to set different trucks, except as code reader.

EDIT: It should be noted that the test link above is for diagnostics testing of the guages for proper reading. It's not for bending or removing speedometer needles. The three positions listed are for voltage checks from the BCM as reference points.

Well found out that if we used my tuner, it wouldnt stay calibrated since it only does it and keeps it there with a tune. So that wouldnt work since you couldnt keep the tune... Best bet would be to pick up one of your own

DoubleTakeDodge 02-19-2012 04:52 AM

i may get a tuner sometime... probably just take her to the dodge dealer in stillwater, they said they can do it there

Okiespaniels 02-19-2012 11:21 AM

If you don't want to mess with a tuner you can buy a device from superlift that connects in your wiring harness out by the antilock. It also allows you to switch between two sets of tires, but requires driving the truck and adjusting voltage pots to set calibration.

South point dodge here in tulsa sayd they would charge me $85 to do mine i heard its the only way besides a tuner

DoubleTakeDodge 03-28-2012 10:45 AM

Yeah, I just said screw it because the cheapest i can find it is for $65. I'm just using my GPS and i have several speed points memorized.
