Thinking about changing tires: Toyo A/T II
 

I am seriously thinking about stepping back down to 33" tires and going with the Toyo A/T II in a 325/60/18, which is roughly a 33x13x18. Several reasons are contributing to this. I can't find the weight for my Nittos but they're heavy. The stock BFG's are 56 lbs and the Toyo's are 61 lbs. Not too much of an increase.

1) When I installed my new rims and heavy M/T tires, my truck lost a lot of power and the ability to hold speed up hills on the highway. It did not do this with the stock tires.

2) I have a baby due in July and the truck is pretty damn tall. Along with my reduction in tire size, I'm going to remove my lift spacers and block and go back to stock height. This will make loading crap in the truck much easier. 3" might not sound like a lot, but it made a huge difference crawling in and out of the bed.

3) Gas mileage dropped about 3-4 MPG with the taller, heavier tires. I stuggle to get 11 now and was easily able to get 14-15 before. Not the biggest reason to change, but it's a reason.

So, am I nuts?

As much as I hat to see it go back down, at least you have a good reason man!

You do have a good reason, but....Have you ever ran the Toyo A/T's? As big of a fanboy as I am of their M/T's, Id have to say they dropped the ball on their a/t version. I've sold a couple sets, and know several people who have ran them on 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton trucks only to get ~40,000 miles on them. Where as the M/T's I've had several people get over 60,000 miles with regular rotation.

Have you sold any of the new A/T II tires? They are supposed to be a huge improvement over the original A/T. I like them so far. They ride pretty nice and are much quieter than my Nittos.

Ive had the toyo at's on a powerstroke and I liked em just wanted an aggressive look on the truck. They were a very quiet tire and rode way better than the trail grappler m/t's I put on afterwards. I personally liked the original at's. And im sure with a new and improved version they should be much better.

Come to think of it, I don't think they were the a/t IIs

The A/T II's just came out, I had a hard time finding online stores that had them available. So far so good, we'll see how long they last. In all honestly, I would be thrilled if I got 40k usable miles out of them, they are rated for 50k. I'm sure that's down to the wear bars which is too low for my liking...

one thing . are you figuring your mileage based on the truck having stock tires? did you ever change your speedo gearing with a tuner or anything bc that will fluctuate your mileage truck thinks it's went x miles but it's actually went many more bc the taller rollout on the bigger tires per revolution ... i get around 11 hand calculated on my black truck and 93 lb 37s and with the more powerful engine and better fuel economy on the new trucks you should easily be higher than that i would think ...
