Cam Swap Veterans????
Anyone familiar with changing a hemi cam??? Or know any good shops that can do it? I'm looking into a 392 Chally cam for the Ram.....and it's looking good so far!
I'm ballsy enough to try and swap a cam on my truck, but don't feel comfortable experimenting on someone else's truck... I don't think it's really all that difficult, just a lot of tear down on the front of the engine. I've changed a head gasket on my old 4.7L with overhead cams and it can't be as bad as that...
So a 392 cam works in our engines? Any idea on power gains?
Man that would be awesome!! Keep us updated
I wondered if this would pop up one day...kind of like back in the day when everyone was putting the 6.1 cams in their trucks.
I'm talking to the pioneer right now on RamZ...he has all the parts...just waiting to do it. The pushrod part numbers are the exact same for the Ram hemi and the 392 Chally...so good news....and the 392 cam is only 64 bucks :) It would only be 250 in parts....total!
And Morgan....I have access to the auto shop on base and am ballsy enough to let someone else break my truck! :) |

I'll let you know and we can tag team two cams in one weekend!!!! Gotta talk to Mr. HemiFever ASAP :)
I think I can order a cam now just in case....64 bucks is nothing! |
Awesome!! That's not a bad deal at all
Hell yeah.
Wonder how much a cam is for mine...
I've been talking to the guy on RamZ the whole way so far, and have all the part numbers he has....they are all readily available.
He is a dodge technician and a racer, so if he says go...then I will do it! I've heard that the cam swaps are very similar to 3rd gens...just a few minor differences. And I have a friend that is willing to help over the computer...he has done 50+ swaps on 3rd gen hemis |
You have the 360 right? You should be able to find cams for cheap...
Seems like it's all falling into place for you!
Nah I got the 318

Basically the same engine with a smaller bore. Cams should be similarly priced.
Yeah...the cam will lead to a new tq converter and then nitrous and drag radials, then a better transmission and a roll bar and then who knows :)
I just want to wear a helmet in a truck....because I have to :) |
Oh and P.S.
Here is a Spartan Eagle 4th gen with the mufflex delete :) http://video.ak.fbcdn.net/cfs-ak-snc...93eb31b189d0f4 |
My wish list includes gears, headers, cam, and torque converter... There goes a few grand....

Sucks spending money, but it is worth it after seeing what comes out of it, especially a fast ram :)

My exact wish list...but I need gears WAY MORE than you! :)
I am going to start googling 392 exhaust to get an idea of the cam profile! Sweet dreams :) |
Yep, with 3.21s you need them bad!
Holy hell that 4th gen sounds amazing!
I've never done one before Timmy but I'm no stranger to turning wrenches. I would love to take part if/when you do the swap. |
this makes me want to do mine too lol
I might only be 16 but I can turn some wrenches to or just hand them off lol if you need more help, let me know
As soon as it is done, I will let everyone know if I have parts in the mail or not! I need the money for the tune as well to at least get it running.
You think a custom tune will be necessary? I wouldn't think there would be THAT much of a difference with the 392's cam...surely a can tune will work.
It is a much higher lift cam than the stock Ram....like more than Inertia cam lift. I believe the LSA is the same....
Oh, well damn. I definitely don't want to lose my SC trans tuning...
You can tune it with an SC I think....
Wow. That's so mean sounding. I love it
Any new news with this? I have all the Miller Specialty tools for a 3rd gen Hemi, I'm sure they are still utilized in the 4th gens. I did three cam changes in my 03...
why did you do so many cam swaps? ... and he's taking it back to stock and selling it to get a powerwagon
Morgan is getting a PW...Timmy is wanting the cam.
excuse my post i had been drinking lol
Lol.
