LowRam 02-21-2012 02:56 PM

paintmatched is what i was leaning more twards :-) and thats the bumper i was talking about james. pretty sure thats whats going to happen. first ive got to replace my dash which will also be paint matched! it wont all be done in time for kicker but it will be done by end of show season i do believe

Graygoose 02-21-2012 02:59 PM

Thought it might be, looks pretty legit!

so on my grille can i get the chrome off some how and paint it or do i need to buy a black grille and then paint it?

DoubleTakeDodge 02-21-2012 03:31 PM

Someone correct me if i'm wrong but i believe that painting on top of the chrome would be the same as painting on top of a factory black grille so unless the chrome is chipping just paint the one you have. but i don't know that for sure.

Lt.Dan 02-21-2012 03:37 PM

Mine would look fine if the chrome below wasnt chipping. But my paint on top of the chrome chips very easily. I think plastidip would hold up better than spray paint. So I'll probably do that if I dont just buy a new grill.

Yours is only chipping on the lines where the chrome underneath is chipping isn't it?

LowRam 02-21-2012 03:42 PM

I also was looking a a grill thats just horizontal and one that was just vertical so i might just change my grille and paint which ever i get

Nope. It's kinda all around.

Oh ok, then maybe i am wrong so scratch what i said. However, you can plastidip on top of the chrome and paint over the plastidip and it holds VERY well, i am speaking on personal experience there. The only place that i ever had peel at all was where the grille hit the ground when the truck rolled

I used factory paint out of a can on mine. Doesnt look the best but it is possible.

DoubleTakeDodge 02-21-2012 05:38 PM

on a chrome grille?

ramthis9501 02-21-2012 05:45 PM

Yup its not really chrome... Just a chrome sheet over the plastic. It sands off pretty easily.

DoubleTakeDodge 02-21-2012 05:49 PM

Yeah, But that's good, so Jon, you don't need a new grille. Pretty sure the guy just sprayed Jerrod's w/ a 99cent can of spray paint the day b4 selling it

LowRam 02-21-2012 06:04 PM

awesome im thinking of doing a vertical grill eventually anyways tho but i might paint this one for temporary

colton did you use any kind of promotor before spraying?

ramthis9501 02-21-2012 07:06 PM

Oh yeah I did, forgot about that lol it was just a cheap can of adhesion promotor
